First edition of this translation into French verse of 768 Greek epigrams after a Latin version by various authors including Henri Estienne, Conrad Gesner, Jean Courtier (verses gilded Pythagoras) …

The poet Pierre TAMISIER (1541-1591) son of a couturier was born in Tournus.

He was prosecutor in the parliament of Paris (he knew in this city Scà © volole de Sainte-Marthe), then president in the election of Maconnais, deputy to the states of Burgundy in 1587.

He composed hymns, odes and religious pieces, notably at the head of works written by Pierre de SAINT-JULIEN de BALEURRE, a gentleman from the neighborhood of Tournus who was his friend (antiquities of Tournus, Macon, origin of the Burgundians). It is besides Tamisier which incited him to compose his work on Tournus after the ravages left by the huguenots (Calvinists).

The poet Guillaume Colletet (1598-1659) said in his speech of moral poetry that the translation of Tamisier was already rare when he wrote.

This anthology is dedicated to Monsieur de RYMON, lord of Champ-Grenon, prosecutor of the Roy to the bailiwick of Mesconnois friend of Tamisier.
